If you are wondering about the domain name, michelangelo.com, I was the first to register the domain back in 1995 – during the period where Network Solutions just started charging for domain name registrations. Before that time, anyone could register a domain name for free.
As you can imagine, when the Netscape Navigator was released in 1994 it created a gold rush of sorts whereby the farsighted obtained domain names that might have some commercial viability. I was working for Mobil Oil Corporation at their Fairfax, Virginia headquarters, and saw the potential of the web to transform the way organizations communicated with their customers and the public.
After 9-11 our business, like many dot-com businesses, went the way of the dinosaur.
So, I left Mobil after seven plus years and started Michelangelo.COM, Inc. as an interactive web design and development company in April 1996. (I shudder when I look at our old designs on the Internet Archive’s WayBack Machine).
After 9-11 our business, like many dot-com businesses, went the way of the dinosaur. In August 2003 I closed up shop and was hired into the Office of Information Technology at the Transportation Security Administration. I pretty much left the Michelangelo.com website unchanged until I decided to relaunch it as my personal/professional blog.
As time goes by I am committed to keeping the site up-to-date with my thoughts on innovation in government, IT strategy, public policy and culture. These subjects are of keen interest to me, and I pretend to know something about them. So, I’ll post my thoughts and hope that you will comment.
I find that websites or blogs that encourage two-way dialogs are the most interesting places on the web. I will post any comments that agree or disagree with my opinions. My only rule is that we be respectful of one another – no personal attacks or spam. Otherwise, it’s fair game.
Feel free to chime in or ask any question!
